Tony Macarena is a design queeratorial duo.TM They make exhibitions, occasions and lend services. Their practice transits the intersection between hegemonic aesthetics, the commercialization of culture and the production of identity politics. They undress neo-colonizing and de-colonizing dynamics, national representation and self-exotization tics. · Tony LORENA CANALES makes text she is an editor, interviewer and critic from in Guadalajara and Macarena ALEJANDRO OLÁVARRI makes images he is a designer, graphist and painter from Mexico City. · Tony explores culture and identity construction through text, objects and pedagogical insinuations. She has a BA in Industrial Design ITESM, GUADALAJARA and a master’s degree in Design Research, Writing, and Criticism SVA, NEW YORK. Her work includes producing, editing and consulting for various platforms like Coolhuntermx, Emerge MX, Cream Magazine and more. She co-curated the academic contents for Campamento GUADALAJARA, a design fair, in its two editions. In 2017 she founded Casa Pública, an initiative that aims at developing artistic voices through publishing practices. She is currently Professor and Advisor in Visual Communication and Industrial Design CENTRO, MEXICO CITY · Macarena translates socioeconomic phenomena through graphics, objects and post-disciplinary illusions. He is former Assistant Curator at Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura. He obtained a BA in Visual Communication CENTRO, MEXICO CITY, with honors, and studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven NETHERLANDS. He has been part of the team for exhibitions and publications such as Mexico Design City [full series], The party was yesterday (and no one remembers anything), and Tu Casa es mi Casa NEUTRA VDL HOUSE, LOS ANGELES, along figures like Mario Ballesteros, Mimi Zeiger, Mario García Torres and Pablo León de la Barra. He previously taught the Designing Experiences I course in Centro CDMX. He is currently studying the Masters in Arts and Politics SCIENCES PO, PARIS.

Openning Gabriel Canales' Archive was an intimate exhibition THAT SPRUNG FROM AFFECTIONS AND MEMORIES and marks a start into a research project on the self-taught artist’s life and body of work. Domestic aesthetics and their relations with normed and queer narratives about the femininities–masculinities binary, are present in the quotidien scenes he frequently inmortalized with yarn and his technique– soft, subtle precious and minute. ¿Original, pirata o piñata? was a queeratorial project that questioned the status quo of design in Mexico through a much needed appraisal and ritualistic destruction of iconic mexican chairs made into piñatas. The exhibition took place in the Museo de Arte Popular MEXICO CITY during AND AFTER the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño 09 - 20 OCT. The second iterationits second iteration the project broadened its case studies and its piñata techniques. This edition was presented at Zona Maco Design. Objetario 01: Cuiriosidades tapatías was our first regional-type show RTS of a queeratorial series that uncatalogs tipified representations ZOOFICATION of queer people by showcasing objects of theirs –detached from the looks of their owners– next to testimonies and definitions of what they understand as the non-hetronormative or queer.
